Stewards of a 1930s Pocono Cabin Property

For nearly a century, this land has been a place to gather, to rest, and to make memories. Today, we are honored to continue that story.

Where It All Began

In the early 1920s, a family immigrated to the United States from Switzerland and built a successful embroidery business in northern New Jersey. In 1924, seeking fresh air and time together, they began summer camping near George W. Childs Park in Dingmans Ferry.

What started as weekends in nature slowly became something more permanent. The beauty of the waterfalls, the quiet woods, and the rhythm of the seasons drew them back again and again. Eventually, they purchased the three-plus acres attached to the park — the very land Babbling Brook Cottages rests on today.

This property began not as a business, but as a place to breathe.

The First Cabins Rise

In the mid-1930s, the first small kitchen cabin was built — simple, sturdy, and centered around a fireplace for gathering. A few years later, additional cabins followed. Each one was thoughtfully placed along the perimeter of the open meadow, framed by trees and sky.

By the early 1940s, the small summer retreat had grown into a collection of cabins designed for shared meals, evening conversations, and long summer stays.

Today, those original structures live on as Snugglers Notch, Bear Claw Cabin, The Stargazer, Toasted Marshmallow, and Fireside Pines — restored and cared for, yet still rooted in their original character.

A Property Meant for Memory

For decades, this land was enjoyed in every season. Summers filled with laughter. Autumns glowing with color. Snow-covered winters where smoke rose from chimneys into quiet skies.

Children became parents. Traditions were repeated. Fires were lit. Stories were told.

Generations created memories here — not because it was grand or elaborate, but because it was simple and real. That spirit remains.

From Private Retreat to Guest Cabins

In 1970, the property was sold, and the cabins began a new chapter as seasonal summer rentals. By 1987, operations formally continued under the name Babbling Brook Cottages.

Over the years, ownership changed hands, but the cabins remained. In 2003, the property was placed on the market and remained listed for nearly seventeen years — yet it continued welcoming guests through every season.

The land endured. The cabins endured.

The story waited for its next steward.

Honoring the Past. Stepping Into the Future.

In February 2020, Lamar placed an offer on the property. By July — in the midst of an uncertain world — the purchase was finalized.

We did not see only cabins. We saw legacy.

Since then, our focus has been simple: preserve what makes this place meaningful while thoughtfully evolving it for today’s couples seeking rest, reconnection, and quiet.

Historic log walls remain. Layouts stay intimate. The natural setting remains untouched. At the same time, each cabin has been carefully restored, seasonally styled, and designed to feel warm, personal, and deeply inviting.

We are not here to reinvent its story. We are here to continue it — with intention.

Nearly a century after the first family pitched their summer tents near the waterfalls, Babbling Brook Cottages remains what it has always been at heart:

A place to slow down.
A place to reconnect.
A place to make memories that last.
